Organizing the Type “New” Cases

Ever have omne of those “American Picker’s” Moments?   Recently my wife and I drove up to the wine country. We thought we’d check out a few antique stores in the region. We were finding a lot of little items. How is it Mike and Frank of the TV show “American Picker’s” put it – “Lots of smalls”. Lots of things like 1960’s Welches Fintstone jars, Viewmaster reels… Then, I knelt down to look in a cabinet and almost over looked a jar of Wood type. Price wasn’t a bargin but I couldn’t pass up adding to our small collection. Making small talk with the ladies who ran the shop, when I was asked if I had one of those big oak type cases. I said I had a beautiful (empty) 20 drawer Hamilton Case. She said she had a case full of lead type and wanted to get it out of her house. She was ready to get rid of it. Her husband knew it had some value. A little negociating and we loaded the SUV. A shop weathered(with cigarette burns) 20 drawer Hamilton Case. 16 drawers with foundry type. A City Stand with 50% of the drawers with more type. From Recent Type Case Purchase Copperplate Gothic Light no.187J 6pt Century Expanded 20A 8pt? Stymie Bold 790J   10/12?
